When I look at the distorted version of hijab around me, I can’t help but wonder; maybe the reason why non-Muslims ask us if we’re ‘bald under our hijabs’ is because our hair is the ONLY thing that seems to be covered while everything else, i.e., the tight pants and the tight-fitting tops, just like themselves, is revealing. What other reason could we have for merely wrapping a hijab around our heads if not baldness? Islam doesn’t need the approval of the so called ‘modernists’ and ‘liberalists.’ The fact that the hijab is considered conservative, backward and old-fashioned cannot serve as a legitimate excuse for making it ‘appealing’ to the people of desires by glamourizing it. If only we changed ourselves to please Allaah as we do to please His creation, how different the condition of the Ummah of Rasulullah (salAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would be? If only we took pride in our perfect religion as we take pride in the filthy ways of the kuffar, how honorable we would be in the Sight of Allaah.
